What is K9-LiquidDx™?
K9-LiquidDx™ is an advanced liquid biopsy that detects circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) in a dog’s bloodstream. Using a simple blood sample, it provides valuable information that can help veterinarians monitor cancer, detect disease recurrence, and support treatment decisions without the need for more invasive procedures.
How does it work?
A blood sample is collected by your veterinary team using a specialised collection tube supplied by us. The sample is then securely shipped to our laboratory, where advanced next-generation sequencing is used to analyse tumour DNA circulating in the blood. Results are typically available within three weeks and are provided directly to your veterinarian.
Why is K9-LiquidDx™ different?
K9-LiquidDx™ has been developed specifically for highly sensitive cancer monitoring. It uses ultra deep sequencing at more than 10,000x coverage, enabling the detection of very low levels of tumour DNA that may not be identified by conventional sequencing methods. The test also analyses 75 cancer-related genes, making it suitable for monitoring a wide range of canine cancers and supporting personalised treatment planning.
Supporting diagnosis
Certain cancer types can be difficult to diagnose because of their location, risk of rupture, low levels of tumour-cell shedding, or other risks to the patient, who is often elderly. K9-LiquidDx™ is designed to support diagnosis in difficult cases and, in certain cases, help identify the specific cancer type.
Supporting cancer monitoring
One of the key advantages of K9-LiquidDx™ is its ability to detect minimal residual disease (MRD), small amounts of tumour DNA that may remain after treatment. Monitoring these low levels of tumour DNA can help identify cancer recurrence earlier, allowing veterinarians to make more informed decisions about ongoing care and treatment.
Sample requirements
We provide the specialised blood collection tubes required for testing. Blood must be collected only into these tubes to ensure reliable assay results. Thanks to the stabilising properties of the tubes, samples remain stable for up to 14 days at room temperature. The tubes should not be refrigerated after collection and should be kept at room temperature.
Amount of blood required:
– Most breeds (10–40 kg): 10 mL of blood
– Large breeds (>40 kg): 20 mL of blood
– Small breeds (3–10 kg): 5 mL of blood
– Miniature breeds (<3 kg): 3 mL of blood. Please ensure that the blood is collected into a 5 mL tube rather than a 10 mL tube, as collecting an insufficient amount of blood in a larger tube can negatively affect downstream analyses.
We assist with logistics by providing all shipping labels, documentation and instructions required to ensure safe transport to the laboratory.
