Our Tests

K9-LiquidDx™

What is K9-LiquidDx™?

K9-LiquidDx™ is an advanced liquid biopsy that detects circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) in a dog’s bloodstream. Using a simple blood sample, it provides valuable information to help veterinarians monitor cancer, detect disease recurrence, and support treatment decisions without the need for more invasive procedures.

How does it work?

A blood sample is collected by your veterinary team using a specialised collection tube supplied by us. The sample is then securely shipped to our laboratory, where advanced next-generation sequencing analyses tumour DNA circulating in the blood. Results are typically available within three weeks and are provided directly to your veterinarian.

Why is K9-LiquidDx™ different?

K9-LiquidDx™ has been developed specifically for highly sensitive cancer monitoring. It uses ultra-deep sequencing at more than 10,000x coverage, allowing detection of very low levels of tumour DNA that may not be identified by conventional sequencing methods. The test also analyses 75 cancer-related genes, making it suitable for monitoring a wide range of canine cancers and supporting personalised treatment planning.

Supporting aid-in-diagnosis

Certain cancer types are difficult to diagnose. It’s related to either location, risk of rupture, low amount of shedding cells, or concurrent risk to patient, who frequently is elderly. K9-LiquiDX™ has been designed to help with difficult to diagnose patients to confirm cancer and in certain cases, help with exact cancer diagnosis.

Supporting cancer monitoring

One of the key advantages of K9-LiquidDx™ is its ability to detect minimal residual disease (MRD)—small amounts of tumour DNA that may remain after treatment. Monitoring these low levels of tumour DNA can help identify cancer recurrence earlier, allowing veterinarians to make more informed decisions about ongoing care and treatment.

Sample requirements

We provide the specialised blood collection tubes required for testing and should be collected only into this tubes, as they provide reliable results for the assay. Thanks to the use of stabilizer tubes, samples remain stable for up to 14 days in room temperature. The tubes should not be refrigerated after collection, but kept in room temperature.

Amounts of blood needed:

  • Majority of breed (10-40kg)- 10 mls of blood
  • Large breeds (>40kg) – 20 mls of blood
  • Small breeds (3-10kg)- 5 mls of blood
  • Miniature brees (<3kg)- 3 mls of blood; please ensure that blood is collected into 5 ml blood tube rather than 10 ml blood tube, as collection of insufficient amount of blood to larger tube can negatively affect downstream analyses.

We assist you with logistics by providing all shipping labels, documentation and instructions to ensure safe transport to the laboratory.

The benefits of K9-LiquidDx™

By combining a simple blood test with highly advanced genetic sequencing, K9-LiquidDx™ offers unique aid-in-diagnosis tool and a minimally invasive way to monitor canine cancer whilst also allowing for potential prediction of therapeutic interventions. It reduces the need for more invasive procedures in many cases, requires no sedation or anaesthesia for most dogs and provides highly sensitive genetic information that can help guide personalised treatment and long-term cancer management.
